8/20/11 Day 15 Well, here's the view of Pikes Peak. The summit is 14,110 ft. We traveled to Colorado Springs today for our ride. We didn't bike up to the mountain because of road conditions and thunderstorms over the mountain! But, we got to view it from below this time. Also saw the Air Force Academy located in the town.
Garden of The God's by Manitou Springs outside of Colorado Springs. This is where the Great Plains meet the Rockies. It's a 1,300 acre city park that railroad magnet Charles Perkins bequeathed to the city in 1909. It has towering red sandstone formations that reminded us of Utah. Another 95 degree day in beautiful Colorado.
Garden of the God's with Mark and Kathy stopping for some sightseeing of the "Balanced Rock" and "Kissing Camels" natural rock sculptures.
Mark and Kathy under the "Balanced Rock" at Garden of the God's Park.
The requisite stop at the Pikes Peak Harley Shop. At least this time we didn't need to get a new bike just a shirt! Our bike is running like a charm and we are so glad we have it!
"The Cousins" in Colorado Springs. Stacey, Barney and Kathy. Who would of thought that learning to ride Grandpa's Honda 55 in the 1960's would have led us to a 10 day Harley adventure around the state of Colorado! Grandpa Bernie would have been proud of his grandkids! After we got back to Aurora we went to the infamous Piper's Biker Bar for dinner. Great Chinese food and Hot Wings- what a combo!
