Estes Park to Red Rocks, CO

8/18/11 Day 13- The wonderful day continues on after we descended the Rocky Mountain National Park. The next gorgeous loop of scenery and fun was in Estes Park. This is the eastern gateway to the Rocky Mt. National Park. Kit Carson hung out here with his trappers in the wild west days. We stopped (with all the other tourists) in this charming town and had our "main" meal of the day at Wapiti's, a restaurant recommended by a local. This would be a great place to live- wildflowers, waterfall, canyon, alpine tundra, wildlife, craggy mountains and a bustling hub of shopping comprise the area! A little bit of something for everyone.

Yes, the 50+ year olds decided to be kids again and camp at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Estes Park. It was a step back in time as we listened to the guys imitating Yogi and Boo Boo! We even stayed on Hey, Hey Drive... sometimes you just have to.

The sites were awesome up at the top of a steep drive nestled up against a tree lined hill. Mark is setting up the sleeping bags and Kathy's thinking about changing to go for a swim with Barney and Stacey. Everyone slept good after the Rockies bike ride today! We worked our way down to a meer 7,800 feet after our 11, 796 earlier.

8/19/11 Day 14- On the road again through some more of Estes Park. This picture is of Central City which was an old gold mining town. They have preserved the old 1800's historic part of town. This was actually after the breakfast stop below!

Mr. Saturday at the Continental Divide in Estes Park at the edge of the Rocky Mt. National Park. One of the locals in town recommended this stop for breakfast. So, here we are outside of Nederland, CO.

Sundance Cafe- recommended highly for their food as well as the outdoor seating with this view of the Rockies on the Continental Divide! Doesn't get much better on this Friday morning... happy 28th birthday Kyle!

Stacey and Dave continued on with their tour guiding as we worked our way to Stacey's house in Aurora, CO- outside of Denver. Another great stop was Red Rocks Ampitheatre outside of Golden, CO. Can you imagine sitting in this spectacular setting listening to the Beatles when they played here in the 60's? We missed Carlos Santana by 2 days :(

Red Rocks Ampitheatre- any opportunity for a group shot and we will take it!

Mark, Kathy, Dave, Stacey and Barney on their 5th day together on the cousin reunion 2011 adventure! Hello Colorado....
